The Right Has Its Feverswamp Too.

One of the things I couldn’t stand about the left during Bush’s presidency was their tendency to take small behaviors on his part - whether they be annoying habits, mispronounced words, rhetorical blunders (so prolific they are called “Bush-isms“), or just how stupid he looked when he danced - and use those as rhetorical tools to show us all how awful, selfish, Evil, idiotic, retarded etc. etc… Bush was.  I never bought it.   Any president is only human, and he’s going to do things that make him look stupid.  He’s going to have moments that reveal a tone deafness that we’re all capable of.     But the lunatic left kept at it,  shrinking into shrill irrelevancy all the while.  It was then, as I was frequenting my many conservative blogs, I thought to myself “Gee, I’m sure glad conservatives don’t do that!”

But that was all before Barack Obama was elected president.   Now I’m finding I have to be quite picky about where I get my news. As it turns out, our side is just as vulnerable to idiotic hysteria, conspiracy theories and shallow, shrill wails of “hypocrit!” as the feverswamps of the left.

Barack Obama’s policies, his ideas and his economic visions are so dangerous, and so rooted in a lack of real, executive experience that I find myself wondering why I have to read 4 un-factchecked posts on “Pizzagate” and how much of an awful, Evil hypocrit Obama is before I land on the facts.  Why I have to wade through endless opinions about whether Obama bowed or didn’t bow.  It hardly matters.  Charles Johnson of LGF is exactly right when he says that Barack Obama is not the first, and that there is a larger policy issue (like energy independence) that we should be focusing on.

These hysterical rantings (and consequent overreactions due to poorly sourced information) are not going to win votes come 2010 (or 2012).  They didn’t work for the left in 2002, 2004 or even 2006.  They didn’t EVER work for the left.  In fact the only thing that seemed to work for the left was the popularity of a charismatic guy, for whom the feverswamps of the right’s only solution is to run around in circles trying to convince everyone that he’s uncharismatic.
